DATA SCIENCE AND ITS USE IN MODERN WORLD




Firstly, what is data science? Simply speaking, the process of collecting, operating, analysing and generating meaningful insights from the data frames is data science. Various mathematical equations, statistical methods and computer algorithms can be used to perform actions on data to generate required results.

It is also extremely necessary to understand that only the knowledge of computer progamming is not enough to practice data science.Domain of data science can be divided into three broad categories:

1.Programming/Database knowledge.
2.Mathematical/Statistical knowledge.
3.Domain knowledge.


1.Programming/Database knowledge:

So, the modern data scientist should be able to design various mathematical models in the form of computer programs.For this programming languages like Python and R are generally used. This is solely for the purpose of creating models and performing calculations to process the data simply because the computers can process and store huge amount of data.Other than this database expertise is also very important in order to perform various actions upon huge amount of data and data sets. 


2.Statistical knowledge:

The knowledge of mathematics and statistics is used to create accurate depiction of real world scenario in these computer programs and models.Extracting meaningful information, creating various algorithms, formulating complex mathematical models are some of the uses of mathematical/statistical expertise in data science. Other than this mathematics is also used to train various models or act as formulae for processing huge amount of data.


3.Domain knowledge:

Domain knowledge refers to the expertise you have in your respective working field. E.g: You may be working as a data scientist for a University.Now in this scenario you need to know various things that are related to the university that might affect your work.This may be number of students enrolled in certain programs or number of professors currently working in the university. Take another example for instance : For working as a data scientist in an insurance firm, you need to know how the insurance process actually works and its varios aspects right? Simply put, this is domain knowledge.


The practice of data science is not limited to only one field but it is a multidisciplinary practice.This means that many fields like Healthcare, Education, Information Technology, Finance, Business, Entertainment, etc all employ various methods of data science in one way or another. It may be to collect user data through various surveys, find likeness of user to a certain product from a factory,find what are the most popular songs from an artist, what genre of movies audience like the most or just perform general census of a nation. All these actions use the methodology of data science in one form or another and our modern life is bound tightly with the practices of data science.
